Supported devices

The app reads heart rate from the standard Bluetooth Heart Rate profile, supported by most chest straps and many watches. Below is the full list from the app, each device with a guide on how to switch broadcasting on.

For HRV: a chest strap (Polar H10, Wahoo TRACKR, Garmin HRM) or the StressLocator finger sensor. Watches mostly send heart rate only, without beat-to-beat intervals.

Your device is missing? Try “Other heart rate sensor” at the end of the list, or write on the forum.

Where to buy a sensor

StressLocatorStressLocator finger sensorHR + HRV

Put the clip on a finger and switch the sensor on. Gives heart rate, pulse wave and full HRV.

Buy StressLocator BM1000C in the Happy Electronics shop

How to switch on

  1. Switch the sensor on and put the clip on the index or middle finger.
  2. Keep the hand still and relaxed; the finger must not be cold.
  3. Choose Bluetooth in the app. The sensor is found by name (StressLocator, Schiller, VS, AR).

Models: StressLocator and compatible finger sensors (BCI protocol)

PolarPolar chest strap (H10, H9, H7)HR + HRV

Moisten the strap electrodes and put it on; it starts sending by itself. Gives heart rate and beat-to-beat intervals, so HRV works too. Nothing to pair in the phone settings.

How to switch on

  1. Wet the electrode areas of the strap, fasten it around your chest and snap the sensor onto the strap.
  2. The strap transmits automatically once worn, there is no button. Tap Connect in this app; the sensor shows up as “Polar H10 …” (or H9 / H7).
  3. If it is not found: close the Polar Flow or Polar Beat app and disconnect the strap from your watch. H9 and H7 allow one Bluetooth connection, H10 two (“2 Bluetooth devices” in Polar Flow, firmware 2.1.9 or newer).
  4. After the session unsnap the sensor from the strap, otherwise it stays on and drains the battery.

Models: H10, H9, H7

PolarPolar Verity Sense / OH1 (armband)HR + HRV

Switch the band on with the button; it stays in heart rate mode (blue side LED). Heart rate shows right away, intervals for HRV arrive after about 25 seconds and only while you keep still; moving the arm interrupts HRV.

How to switch on

  1. Put the band on your forearm or upper arm (Verity Sense also on the temple with the swim clip), sensor snug against the skin.
  2. Press the button. Verity Sense starts in heart rate mode: green LED next to the heart icon and a blue side LED. Do not switch to recording mode (green side LED) or swimming (white); the band does not transmit in those.
  3. Wait until all six LEDs light up, then tap Connect in this app. The band shows up as “Polar Sense …” or “Polar OH1 …”.
  4. Sit still with a relaxed arm. Heart rate shows immediately, HRV after about 25 seconds. If HRV never comes, close Polar Flow (the band handles two Bluetooth connections at once).
  5. Switch off: hold the button until the LEDs go out.

Models: Verity Sense, OH1 / OH1+
